Wels is a city in the foothills of the Alps in Upper Austria. With a population of 63,181, it is the second largest city in the province of Upper Austria. The STADT WELS Veranstaltungsservice und Volkshochschule has issued a call for a scholarship. Authors/ writers can apply for a scholarship as Welser Stadtschreiber. The aim of this call for applications is to promote men and women - without age restriction – in their development as authors. It is expected, among other things, that the applicants demonstrate artistic independence, are willing to enter into an exchange with the people of Wels, and refer to children and young people and their realities in their writing. They must be able to relate their writing to children and young people and the realities of their lives, and they must also want to convey to children and young people a love of language and a playful approach to it. The Welser Stadtschreiber should, for example, offer writing workshops for children between the ages of 8 and 14. Hence, some basic knowledge of the German language will be needed and at least one independent literary publication (not self-published) or five independent publications in journals or anthologies are expected as previous experience.
Applicants must provide with their electronic application -
The selection will then be made by a jury in June 2023. More information to this call can be found via the link below.
